Method

Whipsaw

Renowned industrial design firm, Whipsaw, needed a refresh of their portfolio website to reflect who they are - a cutting edge, visionary, and creative industrial design and engineering agency. It is not often that Whipsaw is the client with another design firm, but Whipsaw and Method complemented each other to create an inspiring and effective final product.

Challenge

Whipsaw needed a website that represented the type of company they are as well as communicated their values, culture, and over a decade of achievement. They also needed a refresh of their logo that would continue to carry them forward.

Approach

Beyond sharing a common language, Whipsaw and Method had a working dynamic that was extremely collaborative, transparent, and engaged. We designed a simple, intuitive website that respected Whipsaw’s range of work and numerous accolades. Communicating their values and culture, the new website calls attention to unique company attributes, business results, and testimonials. The rich feature set is forward-thinking and modern, including social integration, PDF downloads, custom views, and instant cross-referencing. The addition of a blog and connection to social networks give Whipsaw a louder voice, allowing them to more openly and regularly communicate.

The refreshed Whipsaw logo is concise and clear, yet bold and iconic. It symbolizes Whipsaw’s strength and experience, with a nod to the original identity, which was edgy and angular. The original logo personified the passion and ambition of a young company with aggressive goals, but over the last decade Whipsaw has evolved into an established company and the masthead needed to reflect that. Robert Murdock, Principal of Design at Method, stated: "We wanted the core of the logo to represent the timeless and sophisticated work that Whipsaw produces."

Outcome

Whipsaw.com is an example of how design can allow content to shine, giving Whipsaw's wide range of work and numerous accolades center stage. "The relationship formed between Whipsaw and Method was something of a magical pairing between two design firms that produced an innovative and relevant website that reflects the kind of company that Whipsaw is," said Dan Harden, President at Whipsaw. "It clearly communicates our business advantage, highlights our work, and is intuitive for our customers."

The new website and logo launched in May 2011.

Method offers a rational and intuitive approach to solving complex brand challenges in all traditional and digital media.

Link TV

Having partnered with Method to launch ViewChange.org in 2010, Link TV reengaged Method to design an intuitive iPad news application that would allow readers to explore the rich library of international television news, raw videos, and documentaries curated by the seasoned journalists at Link TV.
