At this point the hype about Android is becoming deafening.
For those of you who live in a box at the bottom of the sea... Android is Google's mobile platform.
Today marks the official release of the first Android phone - the G1 from T-Mobile. There are rumors of more than 1 million pre-sales of the device. Seemingly 1/4 of today's tech stories are about the phone or about Android - or about applications for the Android.
This is both intriguing for us - and validating.
Earlier this year, after evaluating the first release of the Android spec and SDK, we made the decision to do an internal (skunk works) development project of an application for Android.
This application is currently in internal Alpha testing.
We're very excited about it. It combines locality with messaging and events and a strong social feature set - all wrapped in a compelling value proposition and the trademark Method user-centric design and gorgeous look and feel.
We'll be releasing a private invitation only beta soon and will share more details at that time.
This experience has taught us a lot about developing applications and experiences on this platform. It's a non-trivial pursuit. The skills needed are wide-ranging, the application constraints are somewhat unique and the needs for integrated processes and teams are high. At the same time - the experience has also shown us the enormous opportunities presented by this platform.
We're excited about the app -- and we're excited to develop more such applications. We believe that many if not most of our clients can see huge rewards from exploiting this product.
