Google just announced that geotagged YouTube videos can now be placed within Google Maps. This is a power update for Google cartographers and a smart integration on Google's part. As compatibility within the Google application arsenal continues to grow, the apps will increase their value exponentially. As we've learned from Apple's lead, building smart applications is good, but making them work with one another is better.
The new addition to Google Maps should prove to be a valuable tool for interactive storytelling. Similarly, Wayfaring.com allows people to tell geographically based stories that are content rich with photos, video and notes. These types of tools are perfect for sharing road trip adventures or tours. We're currently working on a "Method Eateries" map that shows all of our options for lunch near the office. Word to the wise however, beware of the "friend" who is geotagging videos of that late night pub crawl.
