Method bolsters Interaction Design discipline with addition of Ted Booth as Principal.
San Francisco, CA - March 20, 2012 - Design and innovation firm, Method, is excited to announce the addition of Ted Booth as its newly appointed Principal. Ted will lead Method's global Interaction Design discipline, driving the company's creative approach to projects and adding a rigorous and comprehensive broad-based design experience to the company culture.
Booth rejoins Method after a near decade hiatus to continue leading the discipline he initially established: Booth was Method's first Interaction Design Director for the newly established company in 1999. At that time, Booth hired and managed a team of interaction designers across two offices, grew the company's design service capabilities, and helped take the firm through the dot-com boom and bust.
In 2003, he left Method to explore an interest in integrated hardware-software design programs. Booth explained, "I left Method to get off the desktop and focus on designing UI for physical products. Ten years ago, the emphasis was on the tangible object. The screen that happened to run some software was usually perceived as less important. Those days are over. Now, the emphasis and the value are in software. Straight hardware is commodity. What matters most is how a device is connected and the larger value that connectivity brings, and Method has always understood that."
For Method, the addition to the leadership team promises to bring new rigor and creative influence to the company. CEO Kevin Farnham adds: "Ted helped Method build one of our core practices and we're extremely excited to have him here again at a time when we have seen sustained growth and are gaining new clients in new, exciting markets. His understanding of our heritage and the values make Method unique are going to shape the team and continue to push boundaries."
Booth joins Method from Smart Design, where as a Director of Interaction Design, he helped build the office's interaction design practice and overall digital service offering. With deep experience extending existing practices into new spaces, Ted guided the Smart Design team, and digital services revenue grew by fourfold in as many years. Prior to Smart Design, Booth started a user interface team within the interaction design and innovation department at Symbol Technologies, later acquired by Motorola. There he helped a very successful industrial design practice extend its reach into software.
Now in 2012, Ted rejoins Method, an award-winning international design firm with reach that considers all aspects of the brand and product experience, beyond single platforms. "Method is perfectly positioned to bring digital product design, service design, and brand experience together in a way no one else quite can," Booth said. "Also, you know, I like these guys."
