Hailed as the "the Internet's highest honor" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including websites, interactive advertising, online film and video, and mobile websites. The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA's Chief Bob Greenberg, "Simpson's" creator Matt Groening, Arianna Huffington, and Harvey Weinstein.
The 12th Annual Webby Awards received a record 9,500 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states.
Designed and implemented by Method, a leading brand experience agency based in SF, NY, and London, TED.com has already enabled millions worldwide to access TEDTalks podcasts. The site has enabled TED to further its mission of promoting "ideas worth spreading" by expanding beyond the physical conference to reach a vast global audience. According to Jack Schofield of The Guardian in
Everybody Loves TED, "You can easily spend 20 minutes being mildly amused by viral videos. Alternatively you could spend 20 minutes being entertained while learning something that might change your ideas, or your life."
TED is an invitation-only event where the world's leading thinkers and doers gather for inspiration and insight. The audience members - CEOs, financiers, inventors, intellectuals - are almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Quincy Jones, Frank Gehry, Philippe Starck and Bono.
TED.com has received numerous other accolades from the design community, including:
- HOW Interactive Awards 2007: Merit
- W3 Awards 2007: Silver Award
- Communication Arts Interactive Annual 2007
- One Show Interactive 2008: Bronze Award
