The redesigned Ted.com, launched today, showcases the extraordinary talks that have made the conference famous. Chris Anderson, Curator of TED, welcomes the opportunity to share this content: "We see the site as a way of dramatically expanding our community from the 1000 people who attend the conference to millions of knowledge seekers around the globe."
TED is an invitation-only event where the world's leading thinkers and doers gather for inspiration and insight. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design - three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. The audience - CEOs, financiers, inventors, intellectuals - is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Quincy Jones, Frank Gehry, Philippe Starck and Bono.
Method worked closely with TED stakeholders to define the goals and concept, determine the core functionality, and establish criteria for evaluating success, as well as design and build the site. The site includes a first-of-its-kind video player with large-screen playback, automatic adjustment for bandwidth speed, and never-before-seen chapter-marking technology that lets users find and skip to key moments in a given talk. High-resolution videos can be viewed online or downloaded for playback on a computer, iPod, or set-top box.
The site also includes social networking tools - including profile pages, comments, and favorites - that allow TED attendees to network with each other. The site is managed through a robust content management system that allows TED to control what is displayed on each page in an intuitive manner.
