OverviewThe Principal is the strategic lynch pin of Method’s client relationships. A Principal’s primary objective is the long-term profitable growth of client relationships and solutions. A Principal owns and manages the client relationship. The Principal oversees all client initiatives and is ultimately responsible for the quality of service. The Principal partners with Business Development and the regional GM to develop new business opportunities both from existing clients and, when appropriate, from potential new opportunities. This individual is responsible for identifying new opportunities and for positioning new work with existing clients. The Principal regularly interacts with client senior management to outline options, choices within those options and specific actions to achieve client and service objectives. The Principal sets and manages client expectations while continuing to highlight Method’s distinctive value proposition in the market. In this role, they also guide and position Method’s team and models Method’s core values and behaviors. The Principal partners with the Program Manager and/or Project Manager as part of each Account Team. The Principal works with Program and/or Project Managers to identify and approve of required project resources and collaborate around delivery milestones and messaging. They also insure integration of multiple work initiatives (when applicable). Principals possess a strong understanding of strategic business issues and have the initiative to lead their clients and teams to pioneering innovative solutions. They must have an understanding of the strategic issue from the client side, a deep understanding of the client’s business landscape, and be able to suggest solutions that bring clarity. In addition, they need to have impeccable credentials and experience in Method’s service areas. They must be able to establish credibility and vision with both the client and the internal team when it comes to solutions, insight, implications and delivery. The person who is most likely to be successful in this position has developed their talent as a business analyst, business strategist and subject matter expert through hard work and practical experience. They must have managed projects, programs and client relationships to successful outcomes in a range of service areas with a range of clients. They possess a strong sense of responsibility for their initiatives, are flexible, dedicated to quality, enjoy collaborating with diverse groups of people and are able to expresses themselves clearly and directly in small and large forums.
Primary ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development
-Develop relationships with client influencers, contacts throughout the customer organization, and prospective customers through regular networking and relationship-building activities.
-Support business development and sales efforts, with a primary focus on making new customers comfortable with the Method team and work, planning solutions for new customers, and on enhancing relationships with existing customer organizations.
-Outside of a given engagement, use a deep knowledge of the client to identify new business opportunities.
-Work with business development to turn new opportunities into sales.
Client Management
-Establish trusted relationships with key decision-makers in client organization
-Proactively provide subject matter and business advisory services to clients and internal project team members
-Set appropriate client expectations
-In all communications increase the perceived value of Method by reinforcing the strategic vision and delivery expertise
-Manage relationships with stakeholders in order to communicate the value of Method’s services and team
-Foster relationships between multiple client contacts and multiple Method team members.
-Serve as the internal hub of information regarding these relationships and information gleaned from them
-Develop and maintain effective, thoughtful status communication mechanisms for clients
People Management
-Communicate the client’s business needs and goals effectively to the team; in particular, ensure project briefs frame the problem Method is working to solve correctly
-Lead the team in developing and codifying strategies that solve the client’s problems and support their goals, in the context of the “big picture” of the client’s many programs and initiatives
-Ensure that projects track effectively to client needs and goals
-Provide overall leadership on account management and to account support teams
-Work with delivery teams to ensure quality, timeliness and profitability of project execution
-Oversee quality and suitability of all significant client deliverables
-Work with Client and Program or Project Manager as appropriate to resolve project risks
-Actively partner with the Program or Project Manager to manage team members and improve overall morale of project team
-Set and manage account team performance reviews
-Identify talent outside our company and bring those people in
Financial Management
-Help negotiate contracts and ensure contracts are processed and executed
-Deal terms – ensure business terms and payment terms are industry standard and favorable to Method’s corporate goals
-Invoicing and collections – ensure invoices are sent, received, processed and paid per contractual terms
-Regularly communicate relationship’s financial status to executive management
-Work with Project Manager to identify threats to scope and budget as well as opportunities to maximize revenues.
-Manage clients to enforce scope/budget or sell change orders.
-Identify and sell opportunities to maximize revenues including up-selling and cross-selling.
Thought Leadership
-Proactively engage clients with innovative ideas, communicate these concepts as actionable distilled insights that meet stated business objectives
-Lead internal teams towards bringing new initiatives to our clients
-Develop industry-specific insights on best practices, author white papers and speaking engagements
