As Principal and Managing Director in Method's New York studio, Ted drives our creative approach to projects and helps manage the office overall. Ted brings broad-based experience in the design profession and has worked in diverse industries, including consumer electronics, retail financial services, publishing, enterprise information technology, and media and entertainment.
Surrounded by architects while growing up, Ted developed a profound interest in the form, use, and meaning of the buildings and products that surround us. As an undergraduate, he studied international politics and Spanish language and literature. Earning his Masters of Design at IIT's Institute of Design, Ted brought his passion for understanding people and culture together with the careful crafting of communications, information, and user interfaces.
Opportunities to build a new design practice or extend existing ones into new spaces have always attracted Ted. In fact, his relationship with Method began in 1999 when the office was established. As Method's first Interaction Design Director, Ted hired and managed a team of interaction designers across two offices, grew the company's design service capabilities, and helped take the firm through the dot com boom and bust. In 2003, he left Method to explore an interest in integrated hardware-software design programs.
After freelancing for a number of years with industrial design consultancies, Ted started a user interface team within the Industrial Design and Innovation department at Symbol Technologies (later acquired by Motorola). There he helped a very successful industrial design practice extend their reach into software, and designed a number of mobile devices and remote management applications for large enterprise and retail markets. In 2007, he joined Smart Design as a Director of Interaction Design, leading the firm’s interaction design practice and overall digital service offering. Under Ted’s guidance, the interaction team and digital service revenue grew by fourfold in as many years. Clients included Vodafone, HP, American Express, Progressive Insurance, Samsung, and LG.
At the beginning of 2012, Ted rejoined Method, an award-winning, international team focused on digital product design, brand experience, and service design.
When not working, Ted coaches his son's little league team, takes on thankless jobs like being board president in his building, and tries to keep up his bass playing from his days in an indie rock band.
